Gizmodo reports that the price of the base PS3 model in Japan is dropping from $515 down to $429, and also that the base model will support HDMI 1.3.  This almost, but not quite, guarantees that the price of the US version of the console will drop as well.

Hopefully Sony WILL drop the US price because the buzz from the Wii, and the strong performance of the Xbox 360 so far - PLUS the shortages of PS3s that are going to happen, could put Sony in a bad place if the system remains at it’s current price point.

One thing is for sure, competition in the tech world is heating up in all areas, and it’s a really good time to be a fan.

Engadget points us to Make Magazine where Phillip Torrone is the first to have a hands on with Sony’s new PADD (Star Trek reference alert!).  I can’t wait to get my hands on this thing…
